If you haven’t yet heard, my friend Joe Hillman — volunteer extraordinaire and the subject of the “Familiar Faces” column I wrote in the current issue of Teton Valley Magazine — is at Madison Memorial Hospital right now.

On Wednesday morning, in his straight-forward, no-nonsense way, he told me he was going to have his first chemotherapy that afternoon. I learned this between extended bouts of coughing — but he still had a smile for me. The best news, we heard today from Lori Hillman, is that he responded well to that first treatment!

Dee decorated a big piece of kraft paper today for Joe’s friends to sign at the bookstore; Susie Fenger is delivering this banner card to Joe on Saturday morning.

There’s a Caring Bridge site set up for Joe, too. Use this link to go directly to his guestbook (to write a message we can read to him): http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/joehillman/guestbook.

You can access the site by going to http:// http://www.caringbridge.org, entering joehillman in the box where it says “visit the site” (his name with no spaces), as well.

I told Joe if anybody could beat this, he could…… We want his smiling face back on Main Street and at the Seniors Center!

In case your kids are too old for Storytime at the bookstore, there’s another fun family event taking place on Saturday April 4th — the Teton Valley Arena is holding its annual Round Up & Rendezvous at Teton Saddleback Vistas, a few miles south of Driggs.

Note that this is a change from the location on posters around the Valley, which stated the venue would be the Teton County Fairgrounds north of Driggs (near where the Arena will eventually be built.)

The tack swap (think saddles and ropes) runs from 9-2 with horse pulls at 11, followed by games for kids and adults (i.e., an elk hide race, pack race, and team goat roping — no experience required, they tell me.) Dinner, dance and auction start at 5:30 p.m.; music will be provided by Forty Story Shack.

Tickets for the Rendezvous are available at Broken Spur, Teton County Extension Office, and Magpie. For event details or to donate an item to the Rendezvous auction, call Michelle Miller, 709-6466.
