May Events

As the days lengthen and the occasional sunny day make us eager for summer, take time to visit Dark Horse Books. While we love special orders, please take time to browse our shelves. There is always something new on the shelves. Due to repeated requests for Plato, we have a couple of copies of The Republic. Also, there is more classical fiction on the shelves, including Tolstoy,  Dostoevsky, Melville, and Maugham. On the non-fiction shelves, there are now paperback versions of the popular Born to Run, Dead End Gene Pool, Boys of Winter, and Downhill Lie.
 
In the fiction, there is The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht. Several Dark Horse Book customers have highly recommended this book. Also, in hardcover, there is Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult, and The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown. The following bestsellers are now in paperback and available at the store, Ape House by Sara Gruen, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender, A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, Every Last One by Anna Quinlan, and Prayers and Lies by Sherri Wood Emmons. Sherri Wood Emmons is an occasional valley visitor and Dark Horse Books customer. Her first novel, Prayers and LIes has been very popular with Dark Horse Books readers.
 
We have already sold out of the first shipment of City of Fallen Angels, the fifth book in the Mortal Instrument series. We are getting more next week. Be sure to reserve your copy. Any day now, we should receive the next installment in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Again, don’t hesitate to reserve your copy. The four book in the Strange Angels series, Defiance, has arrived at the store.
 
There are several events coming up in May. Be sure to come to the booksigning on May 9th at 6:00 p.m.. Aprilynne Pike is a bestselling young adult author. She is also a graduate of Teton High School. She is coming to Dark Horse Books to sign the third book in her young adult series, Illusions. Dark Horse Book will have copies of all three of her books available for purchase.
 
Storytime, April 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Storytime will feature poetry to celebrate National Poetry Month.
 
Monday, May 2, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The Teton Valley Women Book Group will discuss Baking Cakes in Kilgali.
 
Saturday, May 7, 2011, Children Book Sale. To celebrate Children’s Book Week, Dark Horse Books will be selling all of its childrens books for 15% off.
 
Monday, May 9, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Bestselling author, Aprilynne Pike will be signing her books at Dark Horse Books, including her third and latest book, Illusions. 
 
Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. The Dark Horse Books Writers’ Group will be meeting. This is an open group. Please bring a sample of your writing to read at the meeting.

Dark Horse Books is holding a petition drive to recall School Superintendent, Tom Luna and to require a voters’ referendum on the three Luna education bill passed this session.  If you believe that School Superintendent, Tom Luna, and the State legislature are taking Idaho education in the wrong direction, please stop by Dark Horse Books to sign the petition. In order to sign any of the petitions, you must be a registered voter in Idaho.  The petition drive begins Saturday, April 16, 2011. We need to secure sufficient votes for the recall and referendum within the next sixty days. If education is important to you, please take time out of your day to make your voice count.

On Monday, May 9, 2011 at 6:00 p.m., author, Aprilynne Pike, will be signing books at Dark Horse Books. Ms. Pike’s third book, Illusions, will be published on May 3, 2011. The first two books in this series has been very popular at Dark Horse Books. Dark Horse Books is very excited to welcome Ms. Pike back to Dark Horse Books. Ms. Pike is a graduate of Teton High School. Needless to say, the valley is very proud of her success.

The Help is finally in paperback and Dark Horse Books has  several copies. This book has been universally praised by customers. If you haven’t read it yet, don’t delay getting a copy.  

Teton Valley Trails and Pathways have finally provided  the long requested bike trail guide book, Wyado Mountain Biking: A Guide to Trails in Teton Valley is bargain priced at $12.00.

Faceless Killers by Kurt Wallendar the first Kurt Wallander thriller is back in print as an affordable mass market paperback.

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The Dark Horse Books will host a social hour for valley authors. Several writers have expressed the desire to form a writing group which would meet at Dark Horse Books. This social hour will be an opportunity for all interested authors to meet and form one or more writing groups. Everyone is welcome.

Come celebrate with local author, Kate Yaskot,  the publication of her first book, Voices of the Valley.  Kate Yaskot will be launching her book at Dark Horse Books on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.. There will be plenty of refreshments and good conversation. Take this opportunity to obtain a signed copy of this wonderful collection of stories about the passionate, diverse people, who call Teton Valley home.
