The plentiful and colorful wild flowers of summer are being replaced by vibrant fall colors. Everyone has been delighting in the brief, unexpected Indian summer in September. The October events for Dark Horse Books are still being arranged. But there are several other events that may be of interest.

Dark Horse Books Wednesday Night Social Hour: On October 20, 2010 at 6:00 p.m., Dark Horse Books will host a book lovers social hour. Everyone is welcome to come, socialize, enjoy refreshments and tell the group about a book that they have read recently.

During November, Dark Horse Books will be encouraging NaNoWriMo participants to Come Write In.  National Novel Writing Month, a nonprofit literary program that challenges aspiring novelists to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. It is the largest writing contest in the world, with participants in nearly 450 cities and towns around the globe. In 2009, over 160,000 people took part in the free challenge. While the event emphasizes fun and creative exploration over publishing, more than 30 NaNoWriMo novelists had their NaNo-novels published, including Sarah Gruen, whose New York Times #1 Bestseller, Water for Elephants began as a NaNoWriMo novel. If you are interested, please check out the National Novel Writing Month website. http://www.nanowrimo.org Dark Horse Books will hosting a Come Write In on November 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Refreshments and coffee will be available for participants.

 New Kids Bookclub

Eva Dahlgren, 201-3482 is organizing a 4th Grade Book club. This book club is a variation on the Mother-Daughter bookclubs. Any interested 4th grader is invited to join along with an adult. The adult can be a parent, sibling, grandparent or family friend. Both the 4th grader and adult will read the same book. This is a great opportunity for the 4th grader to discuss the book with not only other 4th graders, but they can discuss the book with an adult in their life. The club will meet at 6:15 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Driggs Elementary School Library. At the first meeting on October 19, 2010, the group will be selecting the books for Nov., Jan, Feb, Mar, and Apr. The first book for October will be The Trouble with Tuck by Theodore Taylor. It will not be necessary to purchase books for the book club, all the books will be provided courtesy of the Teton County Library Foundation.

Kids After-school Art Program The Teton Art Council will have an after school from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning on October 7th. Classes are $15.00 per child, which includes 2 hours of instruction and all project supplies. Call 208-354-4art for more information.
